A westbound merchant vessel was approached by a white skiff with 4 persons on board coming from the vessel's port quarter. Two parachute flares were fired, but the skiff continued to follow the vessel. After the security team fired warning shots in the air, the skiff aborted the approach.

At 0700 UTC / 02APR a merchant vessel was reported under attack by a skiff in position 00 52N 044 01E.

The skiff was white in colour with 8 people on board. The skiff fired at vessel and armed security fired warning shots back. The skiff then left on bearing 010.

Update on Suspicious Activity NSC 001/13

NSC 001/13 UPDATE

On feb 19 at 0503Z, two suspicious skiffs matching the description previously given by suspicious approach reported yesterday, were relocated by a Dutch Frigate. At 0739Z, one skiff was proceeding at high speed, helo fired two (2) warning shots and secured the skiff. The suspected pirates taken on board.

Update NSC 001/13 has been reclassified as Suspicious Activity.

On 18.02.2013 at 1645 UTC, a merchant vessel came under attack by two speed boats in position 07:14.4N – 052:17.2E. Weapons were used. The hijack was evaded due to anti piracy measures onboard.

Suspicious approach

NSC 029/12

A merchant vessel sighted two skiffs. First skiff approached to within 500 metres; possible weapons sighted. Vessel's armed security team fired flares and skiff moved away. Second skiff then approached to within 200m. Vessel fired another flare but there was no response from the second skiff. Vessel's armed security team then fired two warning shots to the side of the second skiff. Skiff then broke off. Vessel is safe.

At 1800UTC 11 August 2012, a dhow at position 17 00N 054 00E reported that it had been pirated. The pirates abandoned this dhow after using it to pirate another dhow and the crew was able to report the incident. This second dhow is reported to have a 6 persons , a yellow crane and a small white craft aboard.

NSC 14/12 - Hijacked Vessel - UPDATE

At 1700UTC 26 MAR 12 a Dhow was hijacked by pirates 10nm north east of Ras Caseyr, Somalia, in vicinity of 1200N 05122E.
The Dhow is believed to have a fibreglass hull with a red bottom, white top and a blue strip between the two. The bridge is white in colour with black stripes and this Dhow is currently in the Gulf of Aden.

Vessels are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating in the vicinity of the position given in this report

and maintain maximum CPA with any vessel acting suspiciously.

NSC 013/12 - Hijacked Fishing Vessel

On 26 Mar a fishing vessel was hijacked in vicinity of position 03 00 N 055 00E, and was taken to the Somali coast. The fishing vessel is currently in vicinity of 05 31N 048 41E. There may be a Pirate Attack Group (PAG) operating in this area.

Vessels are advised to exercise extreme caution when navigating within 100 nautical miles of the position given in this report and maintain maximum CPA with any ship acting suspiciously.

Description of the MV EGLANTINE: Dark coloured hull with white superstructure aft. Seven bulk holds, covers can be seen on deck (See photo at left). It is believed to be working with a brown coloured dhow, and there may be skiffs as well.

A dhow has been reported as towing three white skiffs in the eastern Gulf of Aden (GOA), in vicinity of 1420N 05239E.

This area has seen a lot of suspicious activity over the past few days, such as an attack against a merchant vessel as well as the hijacking and release of a Yemeni dhow on 06 March 12.

Masters are advised to proceed with caution while transiting this area, and immediately report any suspicious activity or incident to UKMTO (UKMTO@eim.ae or Telephone+971 50 552 3215). A Jelbut style dhow has been located approx. 100nm off the coast of central Somalia carrying two skiffs.
Motherships was in position 0241N 04835E at 0940Z on 09 Dec 11, on course 040 at 6kts.
The mothership has two skiffs onboard, and ladders seen on the wheelhouse: one ladder on the starboard and three covered ladders on the port side.

At 1053Z 30 Nov 11, Merchant Vessel reported a suspicious approach in vicinity of 1159N 04507E, by 3 skiffs with 2/3 POB each skiff. Two skiffs approached from the stern closing to within 1nm and one from ahead closing to within 2nm. The skiffs did not attack and broke off and moved away from the vessel. The vessel is safe.

A Vessel came under fire from an unknown number of skiffs in position 0810S 04606E at 2028Z on 31/10/11. Vessel was fired upon aft of bridge bulkhead, port and starboard side accommodation and portholes. On board security team returned fire and after 30 mins pirates left the vicinity of the vessel.

VESSEL IS SAFE. Master is unable to give any further details as it was dark at the time of the incident.

A merchant vessel was approached by a suspicious boat in position 1303N 04852E.
The small boat was drifting approx. 6nm from the IRTC, and later sped up to approach the merchant vessel and then followed the merchant vessel from its beam. The small boat did this for 15 mins before ceasing its approach.
